Time, She keeps on passing.....

And I keep dropping. So this week brought about two things for me; 1. I bought a pair of 38 pants and actually wore them comfortably and 2. For the first time in three months I had a Burger with an actual bun. Both of these do not seem like much but for me they are huge things.
First, the size 38 pants. Confession here, I can not remember the last time I wore pants with a 3 beginning the size. It has to have been at least 15 years since I last wore 38s. So, this has been a big thing for me. Also could be the beginning of an expensive trend(Hello new wardrobe).
Second, I may have found a new heaven on earth. I may want to move into Bull City Burger and Brewery. So, we went there for dinner on Thursday night and OMG, Amazing. All locally grown and made in-house. Best part, they had Gluten free burger buns. The sensation of eating a actual burger on an actual bun, you don't realize how amazing this is till you can't.
So my current weight is right around 245 and is just over 30 lbs in three months. Not to 200 yet, but the road is working fine thus far.

But will I be your biggest loser?

You know, that question is really loaded. So I did not win the biggest loser contest at work. Lost out to a person who had a shorter road to 10% by about .8% but I am not sad. I have now lost about 30 pounds and just purchased a pair of 38 jeans that fit and do not look painted on. I find it crazy to be happy about 38s but I am and it shows, or so people say. This weekend should be fun. I will see people I have not seen in months, who last saw me at almost 40 pounds heavier than I am now. Crazy. The battle with gluten continues and it is getting harder. It seems that the intolerance I had built up thru my life is now all gone and any wheat now really does a spell on me. But we adapt and that has been fun. We recently got in a shipment of Gluten-free cake mix, baking mix and 26 pounds of corn pasta. If you did not know us you may think we were Italian. Anyway onwards and downwards...

So, three months gone by....

And where am I now? 10% less than I was at the beginning of January. I weighed myself this morning and the number staring back at me was a number I have not seen since perhaps my days at that orange school in the hills of the SC Upstate. I have lost 10 percent of my body mass in three months and most of that has come from diet changes. I am absolutely amazed. Tomorrow is the final weigh in for the biggest loser contest at work and I will be interested to see what I register then. Till tomorrow fellow readers.

Twenty, twenty, twenty, twenty pounds ago.......

Woo...So I got in this morning and stepped on the scale expecting to see my weekend gain back again and was pleasantly surprised. 256.6 stared back at me from the readout. That magical little number represents a 20 lb drop since I began this mess 6 weeks ago. Wow, just wow. I say I can not really see it in myself, but others say they can, and clothes do fit differently. I went out Friday with the wife and kids and tried on pants in a size I have not seen since my days at the orange university in the hills of SC. The times they are a changing. Twenty down, now to do it 2 more times.

I take two steps forward.....you know the rest.

So apparently I am getting old. Who knew? So after posting about my weight loss last week, I went to the doctor to investigate an issue I have been having with my lower back and outside of my thigh. Doctor's prognosis, blown disc. Blown disc, really? I can still run and exercise with it right? Apparently so. She told me I can still walk, ride a bike, swim and do some weights. No running or jostling exercises and to take it easy for a while. Time to heal, nine to twelve months. So here we go, time to really get this body I have back in shape and healed up. Weight loss is continuing and I have begun walking the stairs at work several times a day(five flights down and five back up).

Weight: 261(Superbowl weekend was not a friend of the diet)
Stair runs per day: 3
Considering beginning the 100 push-up a day challenge

Month 1 Down

So here we are at the end of January and it is time to check in.

Weight: 258.8

Holy Crap! I have not seen numbers that low in almost as many years as I have been married. That represents a 17 lb loss for the month of January. So, what did I do to get here? Surprisingly little. So as of my last post I have been off any product with wheat or egg in it. Exercise, not much more that a few trips on the steps. Next week I intend on reintroducing a bit of egg and wheat back into my diet to see how it goes, but I think I may take this lead-in and make a long term reduction in wheat.

Thus far on the allergy front I think I can tell I feel different but hopefully this week will make that more appearant. It is going well though. Do I miss wheat, sure I would like to have a big old burger and take the kids to Cici's but it seems to be working and soon enough I should be in a place where I can do those things again but just practice moderation.

So 17 down, many more to go.

New year and new challenges.

Good Day and welcome to the Year 2011. This is the year it all changes for you. What? You say it has all been said before? No, I am sure this is a new statement.

Yes, it has been said many times and will be said again in the future. Here we are in a new year and the goal is still the same, Fat man's journey to 200 pounds. I can not speak for the others you have heard from on here but it has been a journey that has not gone well. Sure there have been small victories but the war is far from over.

In December of this year I received news that I have allergies to egg, wheat, corn, shellfish and a variety of nuts. I was prepared for a couple of these items as they are the reason I had the test in the first place, but others shocked me. I have developed a reaction to cashews and undercooked eggs that caused me to ask my doctor about it come physical time and he ran a small battery of tests. When it came back with wheat I was floored. I am a man who loves his wheat in all the forms, bread, cake, BEER, ugh Beer. Luckily the allergies are not the kind of falling on the floor and needing a shot but they could develop into it.

So, what does it mean for me? I get to run thru an elimination diet. Cut out everything that includes the things on my allergy list for several weeks and then one at a time reintroduce them to see how my body reacts to them. This should help in another aspect of my life, my weight. This is going to help me work on integrating more fruit and vegetables into my eating habits. That has to be good, right?

OK, that is all for now. I plan on tracking this as I go along gentle viewer and I hope it entertains.

Update: Dale (6/23/10)

Time for another quick update.

A weekend at the beach and a week traveling to TX was not good for my eating plan. So after getting back on the Primal Blueprint track things are starting to move in the right direction again. Down. That's right down. As of Saturday (6/19/10) morning I'm down 31.2 lbs in 14 weeks. Which is about 2.2 lbs per week. Overall since January that brings the total lost to 37.2 lbs!

So still on the right track. Back to about 80% primal diet and still feeling good.

In which I try a fun game to loose weight - Scott

So my new online buddy Z over at Hipsterplease.com turned me on to a great music site by the name of Scrub Club Records. Recently the advertised a weight loss contest and me being the sucker for contest that I am, I signed up. This one is being geared to the geekier crowd and incorporates ideas from D&D and Old School RPG Video games into it. You start out a level 1 character and pick your path, be it warrior, monk, shaman or bard and do things by your class to gain experience. Highest level at the end is the winner. There are two categories, "celebs" and "fans". I am looking forward to how this one "plays" out.

Update: Dale (5/16/10)

Just a quick update on how things are going with the Primal Blueprint.

So far so good. This is week 8 of "Going Primal" and I've lost 28.4 lbs! That's about 3.2 lbs per week. Not to shabby. Since January 2010 I've lost 34.4 lbs but the majority of that weight loss has been by following "The Primal Blueprint"...

Eating better, feeling better, sleeping better. So far so good!
