Update: Dale (6/23/10)

Time for another quick update.

A weekend at the beach and a week traveling to TX was not good for my eating plan. So after getting back on the Primal Blueprint track things are starting to move in the right direction again. Down. That's right down. As of Saturday (6/19/10) morning I'm down 31.2 lbs in 14 weeks. Which is about 2.2 lbs per week. Overall since January that brings the total lost to 37.2 lbs!

So still on the right track. Back to about 80% primal diet and still feeling good.

In which I try a fun game to loose weight - Scott

So my new online buddy Z over at Hipsterplease.com turned me on to a great music site by the name of Scrub Club Records. Recently the advertised a weight loss contest and me being the sucker for contest that I am, I signed up. This one is being geared to the geekier crowd and incorporates ideas from D&D and Old School RPG Video games into it. You start out a level 1 character and pick your path, be it warrior, monk, shaman or bard and do things by your class to gain experience. Highest level at the end is the winner. There are two categories, "celebs" and "fans". I am looking forward to how this one "plays" out.

Update: Dale (5/16/10)

Just a quick update on how things are going with the Primal Blueprint.

So far so good. This is week 8 of "Going Primal" and I've lost 28.4 lbs! That's about 3.2 lbs per week. Not to shabby. Since January 2010 I've lost 34.4 lbs but the majority of that weight loss has been by following "The Primal Blueprint"...

Eating better, feeling better, sleeping better. So far so good!

Update: Dale (5/3/10)

So it's been about 6 weeks since I read and started following the Primal Blueprint and so far the results have been positive. Even with a few days of not strictly adhering to the blueprint. In the 6 weeks I've been eating healthy, I've dropped 23.6 pounds! I feel great, sleep better and I'm more focused at work. I haven't added much fitness to my weekly routine yet. The 23.6 pounds I've lost so far is just from changing what I was eating and drinking.

All in all I'd recommend the Primal Blueprint for anyone thinking about making some changes in the way they eat, workout, sleep, play.

I'll keep you all posted on my progress!

Going Primal

A friend sent me a link to this blog the other day. [Thanks Alli!]

Mark's Daily Apple

On the blog Mark talk about his book "The Primal Blueprint", where he explains how to "Reprogram your genes for effortless weight loss, vibrant health, and boundless energy."

After another friend [Thanks Daniel!] had talked about the book I decided to buy it and see what all the buzz was about. I haven't finished the whole book but so far it has been an interesting read.

I'd encourage you to stop by
Mark's Daily Apple and check it out. If you like what you see, consider picking up a copy of his book.

After I finish the book, I'll post a longer review.

I did it, I did it.......

And I was not last. So I ran the St Patty's 8K on the 7th. According to the results posted on Active.com I finished 1142 / 1150. Hooray for not coming in last.

Not all calories are created equal...

This is an interesting article a friend posted earlier today on Facebook. (Thanks Sami!!!)

Some tidbits...

"Today, 55 percent of sweeteners used in food and beverage manufacturing are made from corn, and the number one source of calories in America is soda, in the form of HFCS."

" The average Westerner consumes a staggering 142 pounds a year of sugar"

I'm sure this topic is one that could be debated back and forth but the article is a good read even with the occasional over dramatic flare.

Check it out if you'd like to know more!

Eat more of this.....

In the eternal battle with the sweet tooth, I have often found myself in the yogurt aisle. I have tried a type or two in the past to no avail. I have always liked smoothies(yeah, I know not the same) and I like the pro-biotic one shots, but I have never really found yogurt flavors I could handle eating. Until now, I have found at least two that I like thus far: Yoplait® Whips!® Chocolate Mousse Style and Yoplait® Light Orange Creme. I have also been recommended the Key Lime Pie. I will keep up my search, anyone got a recommendation?

I was running....

Last week I did just under 7 miles in my run training. I have set up a goal that I would like to get to at least 11:00/mile. I have signed up for the Krispy Kreme challenge and also the St Patty's Run Green. I hope by march I will be able to meet my goal.

Run, fat boy, run!

Well I have signed up to run the Krispy Kreme Challenge. I know it seems a bit counter productive, 4 mile run and 2400 calories of doughnuts, but for me it will be the beginning of a running year. I am then signing up for the St Patrick's Day 8k run. We shall see how it goes.

New Year time to reboot efforts.

Welcome to SEYFB, take two. Time to reboot and start efforts all over again. Today marks the beginning of the "Biggest Loser" contest at work. So it seems as good a time as any to refocus the effort and push to get in shape and drop the pounds. Here we go again.
